Art & Design
This course is an introduction to the concepts, techniques, and elements of artmaking with specific reference to the artists and issues of the twentieth century. Lecture and studio classes examine the nature of images in relation to various themes which serve as an aesthetic foundation for future classes. Students are provided opportunities to showcase their artwork in annual school events.
The Graphic Design course teaches students how to focus on a concept, its meaning and how to create new and unique digital images. Students learn the foundation of Adobe Photoshop techniques such as selecting and isolating objects, creating image composites, masking and vignetting images, setting typography, and improving images with retouching and effects. These skill building techniques enable students to create 2D and 3D works of art that can be entered in national and regional art design contests, such as the “Vans Custom Culture Contest” and the “Clean Air Partners Infographic Challenge.”
