Energizing and galvanizing community support to create safer schools and safe neighborhoods through safe passage, individuals working together in a climate of divisiveness

Washington, DC, September 26, 2017 – It is truly the young people that have the greatest ability to change the world for the better, but they need a strong foundation in education and safe environments to thrive in, to change the paradigm this nation is currently experiencing. Man the Block Safe Passage Program seeks to create a diverse collective of individuals from schools, families, businesses, government, civic and faith-based organizations, and the U.S. Armed Forces, to make a substantial and sustainable difference in the ways in which children travel to and from school, without the threat of violence, harassment, crime, or drugs. Richard Wright Public Charter School for Journalism and Media Arts in partnership with the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. have worked diligently since 2011 to bring about change surrounding safe passage, which resonates deeply in the quality of education a child receives, and ultimately, their future educational outcomes.
