Richard Wright Public Charter School for Journalism and Media Arts had the tremendous honor and privilege to welcome civil rights activist and leader Reverend Jesse Jackson Sr. to the school for an amazing visit. He graciously and eloquently spoke with the Richard Wright students, inspiring and motivating them through his call and response affirmations, his warm, humorous, and loving demeanor, recounting his experiences in school with his teachers, his roots in civil rights activism with Dr Martin Luther King, and his ongoing work with the Rainbow PUSH Coalition. Reverend Jackson’s fundamental message to “Keep Hope Alive” will continue to resonate as Richard Wright continues to nurture and develop future leaders and innovative mediamakers.

During the visit Richard Wright Network News (RWNN) reporter Ambassador Tiara Gordon had the incredible opportunity to speak with Reverend Jesse Jackson Sr. for a RWNN exclusive interview. Poised with exceptional questions, Ambassador Tiara did a phenomenal job with the skills of a seasoned professional. Undeniably practice in the field, reinforcing real world application of skills and hands-on experience, prepared her for this interview with one of the nation’s foremost civil rights, religious, and political figures.

Reverend Jesse Jackson Sr. was generous with his time, as well as forthright, thoughtful, and captivating in his responses, detailing his first hand experiences with Dr. Martin Luther King, even recounting the days leading up to and the tragic moment of the Dr. King’s assassination.
